Salzburgerland: where winter shows its gentlest side
Salzburgerland + winter – that’s the winning combination for a fantastic holiday with the whole family. But what exactly can you do in beautiful Salzburgerland in winter? Skiing, of course. And what else? Let us tell you!
Make the most of Salzburgerland in winter.
Ski tour to the summit
You can get up close and personal with the mountains on a ski tour amongst the multitude of peaks. Ask your hosts Maria and Günter Innerhofer about the best tours.
Adventures in the snow
Get a bird’s-eye view while tandem paragliding in Hohe Tauern National Park. Or hop on a snowmobile for fast-paced fun through the winter landscape.
Get on the ice
In Bramberg and Neukirchen, you can look forward to illuminated ice rinks where you can not only ice-skate, but also enjoy curling matches with your children.
The clip-clop of horses’ hooves and the jingling of sleigh bells
The horses of Araberhof farm will carry you through Bramberg’s winter wonderland – over vast fields and through enchanting forests. The horse-drawn sleigh rides are absolutely idyllic in winter. Afterwards, put the perfect finishing touch to the evening with a cup of mulled wine or children’s punch.
Tobogganing fun
If you’d like to go tobogganing with your children, then you’ve picked the right place for your skiing holidays in Salzburgerland. The longest illuminated toboggan run in the world is found on Wildkogel. The descent is 14 kilometres long and you can hire toboggans directly at the Smaragd lift or from us here at our Smaragdhotel.
“A horse-drawn sleigh ride through the white landscape, wrapped up in cosy blankets, is sure to set children’s eyes sparkling.”
Maria Innerhofer
Winter holidays with children without skiing
When you come to Salzburgerland for your winter holidays, you’ll find so many ways of creating special memories aside from skiing in the Wildkogel Arena. Snowshoe hiking is one of the best activities for admiring the stunning landscapes in Hohe Tauern National Park. On an approximately four-hour tour, you’ll hike with the national park rangers to the most beautiful spots and – if you’re lucky – see some wild animals. The national park provides you with snowshoes free of charge.
On Wildkogel, you can follow the well-signed winter hiking trail from hut to hut and warm up with some Pinzgau specialities. Especially at Christmastime, we recommend a leisurely walk through Bramberg, the village that our hotel in Salzburgerland calls home. The houses are covered in glittering blankets of snow and have pine branches with pine cones and ribbons in the windows. The lights of the toboggan run sparkle from Wildkogel while countless stars twinkle in the sky.
